Returning to the same Dark Lord and his perfect match in both skill and romance, Hunt delivers a humorous tale about embracing your past while staying focused on what matters most. This is a book about healing—and why going no-contact with your parents really may be the best solution.
I give The Dark Lord’s Guide to Honeymooning (and Other Acts of Tyranny) 5 out of 5 stars. The first book in this series was our 2026 Q1 Book of the Quarter, and this one has the power to place for Q3 as well. Hunt writes witty banter and immersive scenery that pull readers in and keep them entertained until the final pages. The reveal of a common thread in our couple’s backstory was a bit predictable before it was fully brought into the light. However, Hunt keeps the twists and turns coming throughout the narrative and surprised me several times. As for the romantasy aspect, no one can top Hunt when it comes to giving readers just enough to want their own Dark Lord while still keeping the pages PG-13.
With the first book, I mentioned how much it reminded me of Rapunzel, but this installment has more of a Guardians of the Galaxy or Shrek-all-grown-up feel. This is the perfect read for those who love Ali Hazelwood or Laurie Gilmore. But if you prefer closed-door romances, or if you’re under the age of 16, you may want to set this one to the side.
