RWL Reading Challenge – Week 10: With a Muslim protagonist
The Kite Runner
by Khaled Hosseini
Posting on Monday, March 4th
I read Hosseini’s second book A Thousand Splendid Suns last year and was in awe of his writing style. I am excited to be sharing this book this week! Hosseini brings everyday life in Afghanistan to the readers in a way that shows the similarities with American culture and the differences. He also has a way of making you feel the fear or pain these characters have.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Best Seller: A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini
- General Fiction: A Girl Like That, Tanaz Bhathena
- Romance: Sofia Khan is Not Obliged, Ayisha Malik
- Mystery/Thriller: Hard Kill, JB Turner
- Nonfiction: The White Mosque, Sofia Samatar
- Kids: Hannah and the Ramadan Gift, Qasim Rashid & Aaliya Jaleel

US States Challenge – Week 10: Georgia
Between, Georgia
by Joshilyn Jackson
Posting on Thursday, March 7th
Georgia is my home state and I can tell you there are PLENTY of books set in the state! I have had this one on my shelf for over a year and am so glad I finally got the chance to read it. While Between is a real life city in our state, the story is completely fictional. However…if you like small town drama and romance, this is the book for you!
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, John Berendt
- General Fiction: The Color Purple, Alice Walker
- Romance: The Fixer Upper, Mary Kay Andrews
- Thriller: Triptych, Karin Slaughter
- Nonfiction: Georgia Made : The Most Important Figures Who Shaped the State, Neely Young & Senator Saxby Chambliss
- Kids: And the Tide Comes In…Exploring a coastal salt marsh, Merryl Alber & Joyce Turley
Rotating Posts – Week 10: Nonfiction
The Hemingses of Monticello
by Annette Gordon-Reed
Posting on Saturday, March 9th
Following the reading of Gordon-Reed’s first book last month, I wanted to continue learning about those closest to President Jefferson. This book received multiple awards and really digs in further to who these individuals were and their impact on history that we haven’t always heard
