New Release Tuesday – 8/8/2023

Happy Tuesday everyone! Beyond being the birthday for some great new books, it’s also International Cat Day. My two furry supervisors love when my new books get delivered because they come with a built-in cat toy – a box! Which of these reads are you grabbing today?

Canary Girls by Jennifer Chiaverini

If you love historical fiction, you need to pick this one up! Chiaverini captures the story of the women munitionettes in Brittain during World War I. These women worked with dangerous materials with very little protection, which leads to some odd symptoms among the workers. Those symptoms include a yellow skin tone which earns them the nickname “canary girls”. Similar to The Radium Girls we read in July, this book is a tribute to both the women who suffered and those that worked to protect and treat them.

None of This is True by Lisa Jewell

Do you listen to true crime podcasts? Then you’ll love this new thriller! Two women cross paths in bar on their shared birthday. Then again a few days later when Josie approaches Alix and says her life would be perfect for Alix’s podcast. What happens next has a “stranger than fiction” feel.

Tangled Vines: Power, Privilege, and the Murdaugh Family Murders by John Glatt

Glatt is an investigative journalist with a history of writing about some of the biggest stories in the news. His latest release covers a “ripped from the headlines” thriller of the downfall of Alex Murdaugh. Murdaugh, a South Carolina lawyer, has recently been found guilty of unfathomable crimes to cover for his own sins and that of his son.

Kids’ Books releasing today

Slime Shop by Karina Garcia, Kevin Panetta, and Niki Smith

Do you watch the Slime Queen on YouTube? My kids do and they love her! Her book details three friends who run a slime shop. But the fun really happens when the friends are away…and the slime comes to life! This book will have your kids in stiches laughing so hard!

The Magic of Forests by Vicky Woodgate

My 7-year-old loves to go on hikes with me – he calls them adventures. He asks so many questions about the trees and the animals though! Woodgate’s new release delves into science, history, and mythology that lives in our local forests and will help answer all his questions!

The Ogre in the Hall by Celine Sorin & Pascal Lemaitre

Is your child in that stage where they can get up to go potty by themselves in the middle of the night…but won’t out of fear for what is lurking in the dark? That’s our son, too. It’s also Jojo, but he knows there’s an ogre living in the hallway. This cute story will help your child face their fears and laugh away the scaries in the night!
