New Release Tuesday – 4/4/23

Happy New Release Tuesday! What new books are hitting your TBR stack today? There’s several in this list that I can’t wait to set my eyes on!

Camp Zero by Michelle Min Sterling – Camp Zero is a new project under construction supposedly bringing a ground breaking new way to live to combat the challenges brought on by climate change. The project is rife with corporate espionage and personal conflict threatening the development. Touted as a “near-future” ficition, this dystopian novel will please anyone looking for something a bit mystery and a bit sci-fi!

Choosing to Run: A Memoir by Des Linden and Bonnie D Ford – this debut book is from the 2018 Boston Marathon winner and Olympian. Known for her tenacity, Des shares the behind the scenes stories of some of her greatest races, including relationships with other runners, training regimens, and her record breaking running!

Coronation Year by Jennifer Robson – This historical fiction is set against the backdrop of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953. It follows the owners of a small inn along the parade route who are trying to save their business and cash in on the coronation craze, along with their guests. With elements of mystery and, of course, royalty, this is a timely release given the coming coronation of King Charles III!

Forget Me Not by Alyson Derrick – What would you do if your significant other woke up and didn’t remember you or the past 2 years of your life together? In what feels like a ripped from the headline storyline, that’s exactly what Stevie and Nora are facing. This promises romance and a finding yourself type of journey.

Nine Black Robes by Joan Biskupic – I have been a Supreme Court enthusiast since the Notorious RBG was appointed when I was in middle school. However, the last few years have seen a great shift in the ideology of the court. Biskupic, CNN’s court reporter, investigates the shift and the resulting over turned Roe v Wade decision.

Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld – a writer for a comedy sketch show a la SNL crosses paths with a handsome musician who is this week’s host and musical act. As they collaborate on sketches for the show, sparks start flying – could a guy known for dating hot models be interested in mousy writer? This book is making all the waves this week in my book clubs!

The Home for Wayward Girls by Marcia Bradley – Loretta’s parents run a “camp” for troubled teenage girls. She watches as these girls suffer abuse under the guise of “correction”. She, herself, has suffered similar abuse at the hands of her father. Eventually escaping the camp, Loretta finds purpose in a new community where she devotes her time to helping at-risk teens.

The Wisdom of the Bullfrog by William H McRaven – Admiral McRaven served 4 decades in the US Navy Seals and earned the title Bullfrog – the Seal with the longest service record. Known in the self-development and business improvement book world as the author of Make Your Bed and Sea Stories, McRaven delivers leadership insights from his time as a Seal, head of US Special Operations Command, and the Chancellor of the University of Texas system.

Kids’ Books releasing today

100 Mighty Dragons All Named Broccoli by David Larochelle and Lian Cho – I preordered this one for my son who LOVES math, counting, and dragons! The story follows 100 dragons who live on a mountain. But when half get blown away, others start off on their own adventures. Readers follow along with the countdown of how many dragons are left until there’s just one. I think this one will be on our nightly reading list for a while!

Dog Diaries: Big Top Bonanza by James Patterson, Steven Butler, and Richard Watson – this is the latest installment in Patterson’s illustrated kids book series. When the circus comes to town, Junior and his friends are excited! Follow along as they cause all kinds of chaos and steal the show!

How to Catch a Daddysaurus by Alice Walstead and Andy Elkerton – I’m excited for this latest installment in the “How To Catch” series! After having caught a leprechaun in March, the Catch Club Kids are off to catch someone brave and kind – a Daddysaurus! I’ve got this one on order for Father’s Day – if you have a tiny dino-lover, this might be a perfect father’s day gift for your house, too!

Truck Tunes by Jim Gardner and Rob Gardner – does your kid point out every big truck and piece of construction equipment you pass? Then this might be a great addition for your Easter basket! Filled with 45 sons about trucks and equipment and real photos of them, the only challenge will be to get these catchy tunes out of your head!

Welcome to Sparklegrove! by Rebecca Elliot – This is the 8th installment in the Unicorn Diaries series! A new family has moved into Sparklegrove. The residents are excited to welcome the newbies, but they find out there are centaurs after the new family – putting everyone at risk. Filled with humor, the book is a great reference to talk about compassion and choosing your friends.

Woo Hoo! You’re Doing Great! by Sandra Boynton – While I’m listing this under children’s books being released today, this book is really ideal for all ages. Boynton brings a message of encouragement to readers, no matter what challenges they are facing. Coming just in time for finals and graduation, this book would be a cute throw back to childhood for your high school and college grads!
