Revenge Prey

Thank you NetGalley and G.P. Putnam’s Sons for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own..

Lucas Davenport has faced just about every high‑stakes scenario imaginable as a U.S. Marshal — hostage crises, manhunts, witness protection, and the unpredictable chaos that comes with the job. So when he’s assigned to work with several D.C. agencies to relocate a high‑value family to Minnesota, it feels like a routine operation. But nothing in the Marshal’s service stays routine for long. When the family is attacked shortly after reaching their safe house, Lucas and his partner quickly realize they’re up against something far more dangerous. Can they stop the assailants before more lives are lost, or will they become the assassins’ next targets?

Revenge Prey, the 36th installment in John Sandford’s long‑running Lucas Davenport series, sends our favorite Marshal on a relentless hunt for a team of elite killers — killers who are also hunting him.  Sandford blends domestic thriller tension with procedural precision, crafting a fast‑moving story that keeps the mastermind behind the plot hidden until the final pages.  This is a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and have you reading way past midnight to see what happens next!

I’m giving Revenge Prey a full 5 out of 5 stars. As a longtime fan of Sandford and the Davenport novels, this entry felt both fresh and faithful. The addition of international assassins raises the stakes, while Lucas remains unmistakably Lucas — from the way he clears a scene and navigates chain‑of‑command politics to his love of fast cars and his grounding in family life. Sandford’s writing continues to shine, with vivid settings and sharply drawn characters. A few moments of foreign‑language dialogue may challenge some readers, but overall the book is an easy, absorbing read.

I recommend this novel for mature readers ages 16 and up due to depictions of gun violence and death. While it’s the latest in a long series, it works well as a standalone. Fans of Sandford — or readers who enjoy authors like David Baldacci, Marc Cameron, or Michael Connelly — will find Revenge Prey a thrilling addition to their shelves

Revenge Prey will release on April 7th.  You can preorder your copy today on our Bookshop.org page!
