When we were planning out this year’s reading challenge, February was one of the months I was most excited about—I’m always here for a good romance. We had a lot of fun exploring a few different subgenres, though there are still so many we didn’t get to this time around. Did we manage to read one of your favorites?
January’s top picks were mostly pre‑release reads, but February was all about pulling books straight from my own shelves. Both of our five‑star reads had been sitting on my TBR for a while, and I was so glad to finally give them their moment. Here’s how this month’s reads stacked up.
5 Stars
- The Au Pair Affair, Tessa Bailey
- The Wife Situation, Lyra Parish
4 Stars
- El Paso, Jazmine Ulloa
- Get a Life, Chloe Brown, Talia Hibbert
- Jefferson Davis, a life from beginning to end, Hourly History
- Never Fall for Your Back-Up Guy, Kate O’Keeffe
- The Ruler, Penelope Sky
- The Summer I Turned Pretty, Jenny Han
- Without a Clue, Melissa Ferguson
3 Stars
- The Last Bite, Amy S. Peele
Top Read of February
January’s reading lineup was a bit underwhelming, so February felt like a major rebound. I was thrilled to rack up so many four‑star reads this month—even if only two earned a full five stars. Both of those standouts are part of series, and I’m already itching to jump into the next books to spend more time with these characters.
February’s top pick delivered a cute, relatable take on dating as a single parent. While not all of us will land a handsome hockey god, the struggle to stay professional when the chemistry is that strong feels universally familiar. I loved how Tessa Bailey balanced the romance with real-life moments—from a teen navigating her parents’ divorce to the everyday rhythms of breakfast, school, and family life. The Au Pair Affair is a stellar second installment in the Big Shots series, and I added the next books to my TBR immediately after finishing.
Next Month
From one beloved genre to another—folklore, where ancient paths wind through moss and memory, and stories are meant to be told aloud by firelight. I’ve long been enchanted by legends and mythology (so much so that I once devoted an entire term paper to Appalachian folklore), and this theme feels like opening a dog‑eared volume passed lovingly from one generation to the next. With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, we’ll be wandering through some of my favorite tales—fairies flitting at the edges of the woods, mischievous leprechauns, shape‑shifting púcas, and wailing banshees. With Irish roots of my own, these stories feel woven into my bones—but our journey won’t end there. We’ll also be crossing borders and oceans to explore folklore from around the world, following the magic wherever it chooses to lead us.
I invite you over to our StoryGraph reading challenges where you can follow along, check off the prompts, and see what the rest of our community is choosing for these challenges.
