Thank you NetGalley and Scarlett Press for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
This was not how the day was supposed to go. Arabella was riding in her carriage with her lady’s maid when they were attacked by the brute standing in front of her in all black. That was a…fashion choice. Arabella can’t help by notice how handsome this man is, or how his eyes sparkle when she lobs insults his way – he almost seems like it when she fights back? And when he offered her a choice to either stay here and become his wife, or return home to her father and remain a commodity to be traded for power and wealth, the choice wasn’t all that hard. Who really says no to the Dark Lord, anyways?
The Dark Lord’s Guide to Dating (and Other War Crimes) is a witty take on a dark spin of fairytale romance. Tiffany Hunt deliverers dramatic imagery and beautiful dialogue to bring drama to the plot, but breaks the tension with plenty of passionate scenes later in the story that will fog up your Kindle or your reading glasses! This is a book about learning your own power, but also how to never say never – because that might just be the very thing you’ve always needed.

I give The Dark Lord’s Guide to Dating (and Other War Crimes) 5 out of 5 stars. This was a book that had me rolling with laughter and finding it hard to contain my giggles in my early morning reading sessions. From the funny chapter names to the banter between the two main characters, I kept stopping to read a passage to my husband because of how funny it was. I also really appreciated the way Hunt wrote Arabella’s character not as the damsel in distress, but as a damsel who could save herself and everyone else, too. I love the magic that is woven throughout the book and the revenge – lots of revenge. It appears this will be the first in a series of books and I cannot wait for more!
If you grew up on stories like Disney’s Rapunzel and are looking for something a little more adult, this is the book for you – it gives off similar unexpected heroine vibes with plenty of spice. I’d also recommend this for readers who enjoyed Ali Hazelwood’s Hot for Slayer, or the Falling for Demons series from AK Caggiano and Laura Winter. But, if you prefer closed door romances, or if you’re under the age of 16, you may want to set this one to the side.
The Dark Lord’s Guide to Dating (and Other War Crimes) will release on March 3rd. Preorder yours today on our Bookshop.org page!
