News and Updates
We had a great time on our vacation this past week, but I’m so glad to be home. You never remember how tiring a vacation can be until you’re halfway through and wanting a vacation from the vacation! We really did have fun exploring and seeing the sights. Plus, we got to visit some amazing bookstores in the area!
This Week

We are honoring Pearl Habor Remembrance Day this week with our weekly prompt. Next Sunday marks 84 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor. I hope one day to make it out to the memorial in Hawaii – have you been?
Reading Challenge: Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

I’ve read quite a few books about the day of the attack, but Bill McWilliams’ Scrimmage for War delivers new information and a point of view I’ve never read before. Following two college football teams as they traveled to the island just before the attack and later worked to help with relief efforts for the community, this book explores how life was “normal” before the attack. What these young men went through on that day shaped their futures in a very distinct way. From being on the forefront of the initial attack by happenstance to their later service overseas, these men saw history made with their own eyes…and by their own hands.
If you’re looking for other great books for this prompt, try one of these:
- Countdown to Pearl Harbor, Steve Twomey (read the full review here)
- A Letter from Pearl Harbor, Anna Stuart
- Pearl Harbor: FDR Leads the Nation into War, Steven Gillon
- To Wake the Giant, Jeff Shaara

Last Week’s Prompt

Callie’s going home for Thanksgiving this year. It wasn’t entirely her choice – she was given days off she doesn’t normally get and there’s rumors of upcoming layoffs. But that’s an after-the-holidays worry. Right now, she needs to consider that Adam will there for the holiday dinner. Adam – the older guy she’s crushed on for a decade, her brother’s best friend – just the thought of him is making her so nervous she’s eating every snack in sight. Will there still be sparks between them, or will he have moved on?
I give Stuffed by Jessica Gadziala 4.1 out of 5 stars. This steamy holiday hookup is a perfect read for a long flight or car ride. I read it curled up on the couch early on Saturday morning in just a few hours. And boy do I want an Adam in my life! It does come across a bit like a Hallmark movie with things lining up a tad too perfect, but for a short holiday read, this was a fantastic book! If you’re a Meghan Quinn fan, you’ll love Gadziala’s work!

Thanksgiving Day is our annual release day for the Read With Lindsey Reading Challenge. This year, our overall theme is Genres. Our monthly prompts will take us through 12 of my favorite genres with our weekly prompts digging in deeper to each. Don’t forget to join us over at The StoryGraph for the interactive experience in 2026!
Grab the link to our StoryGraph challenges and get a printable copy of the weekly prompts here.

We also took a look back at the great books we’ve read in November and chose our top book for the month! Amy Pease’s Wildwood was our only 5-Star book in the past few weeks, but it well earned the top spot this month!

International politics is never easy. The power plays, the egos, the risk of war. With a calm history between them, it’s always appeared that Canada and the United Sites have been great allies along their 5500-mile border. But that all changes when a scheming politician decides it’s time to unite the two countries to fight against a common enemy. The question becomes is that enemy the threat of nuclear war, or is it common political maneuvering?
I give In High Places by Arthur Hailey 4 out of 5 stars. This book originally released decades ago, but with the new audiobook hitting shelves in December, I appreciate the opportunity to look back at this one. It feels so fitting with the current political climate, even if some of the big names in today’s DC world were not even alive when this was first published!
