This Week: November 23rd

News and Updates

This is going to be a very busy week for us! I’m technically offline this week, spending time with family for the Thanksgiving holiday, but we have so many great things lined up…including the big reveal for the 2026 Reading Challenge! I can’t wait to share all the details with you!

This Week

Our theme this week is all about the Thanksgiving holiday and we have some great books planned this week. We’re also looking ahead to 2026 and reviewing November’s best books!

Reading Challenge: Thanksgiving

Last year, I focused on a non-fiction book for the holiday. This year, I wanted to find something a little lighter and Jessica Gadziala’s Stuffed was perfect!

A girl returns home for the first time in years for the holiday and comes face to face with her teenaged crush who’s all grown up and just as hot as ever. Will her meddling family make a mess of things, or will she finally have a shot at love with the hunk?

If you’re looking for other great books for this prompt, try one of these:

  • A Match Made for Thanksgiving, Jackie Lau
  • An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving, Louisa May Alcott
  • Thanksgiving, Janet Evanovich
  • This Land is Their Land, David J. Silverman

New This week

Tom Clancy Executive Power by Andrews & Wilson hits shelves this Tuesday! The 21st book in the Jack Ryan series, this one lets readers get to know the Ryan kids a little better as Katie and Kyle fight against evil overseas. I really enjoyed the focus on the lesser-known Kyle Ryan in this book and seeing him come into his own instead of living in his famous father and siblings’ shadows.

In Case You Missed It

Last Week’s Prompt

Caney didn’t know what to think when he saw her walk through the door. She was carrying an injured dog, dressed like a lot lizard, and had all the women in his diner in a tizzy. When she asked for a job, he didn’t want to tell her no, but he couldn’t afford to pay her either. He couldn’t believe it when she said she’d work for tips and only on the cars outside – they hadn’t had car service in years because hardly a car came in! But that was pre-Vena Takes Horse and that day would change everything in Caney’s life – he just didn’t know it yet.

I give Bille Letts’ The Honk and Holler Opening Soon 4.1 out of 5 stars. This book took me through all the emotions and felt like a classic western mixed with a bit of Luke’s Diner from Gilmore Girls. If you love Lett’s more well-known work Where the Heart Is or if you’re a fan of Fannie Falgg’s works, I think you’ll love this book!

Last Week’s Article

Last week, I shared some great bucket list destinations for bibliophiles. All of these are in the US and nearby major cities you may be headed to for the holidays. From the deep south, to New York City, and Alaska, there are some little-known attractions I think you’ll enjoy. If you’re traveling near one of these destinations and get a chance to stop, tag me in your photos – I’d love to hear about your experience!

Last Week’s Preview

In the late 1930’s and early 1940’s, they rode horses to carry books to these far-flung towns and residents.  But today Hailey is setting off for her first day as a traveling librarian in this beat up jalopy of a bookmobile. She’ll find more than just readers waiting for her when she makes it to her first stop.

I give Hearts in Circulation by Sarah Monson 4 out of 5 stars. As we are headed to the mountains for the holiday week, this was a great read to put me in the mood for small-town life, and the perfect quick read for the weekend!

Reading Challenge Prompts

Are you reading along with us for November? Here’s the full list of our upcoming weekly prompts. Not up for reading a book every week? That’s ok – we have a once-a-month prompt, too! Our monthly theme for November is Brown – look for a book with a brown cover or brown in the name.
