Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Sheriff Marge North knows Wildwood like the back of her hand. The people, the places…nothing should surprise her here. So when the FBI and DEA turn up at her crime scene to reveal that the potential victim is their undercover informant in a large drug sting, Marge is stunned. Pill mills and fake doctors just aren’t hear of around here. Will they find their missing informant before the criminals find out they have a mole in their midst, or will it be too late?
Wildwood is the sequel to Amy Pease’s debut novel Northwoods, following the same Sheriff and her son on their investigations into crime in their town. Pease, a nationally recognized nurse practitioner specializing in HIV care according to her GoodReads biography, brings her medical background to this novel in a unique but informative way that will leave readers with a new understanding of the dangers of pain clinics and drug rehab centers when they are not managed properly. With elements of mystery, thriller, romance, and police procedural, this novel offers something for all readers, but at the heart, it is a novel about the power of secrets to either build you up, or bring you down.

I give Wildwood 5 out of 5 stars. I loved this book so much that as soon as I finished it, I immediately ordered Northwoods so I could get more of these characters! I could relate to each of person involved in different ways and felt connected to the story. There were a few elements of the story towards the end that felt a little out of reach and unrealistic, but this really felt like it could have been a story pulled straight from the national news. One of my favorite aspects of this was the actual bodily injuries shown after a blast that were realistic and a continual part of the storyline and not something that disappeared after that scene like so many other books!
If you love domestic thrillers or police procedurals, I think you’ll love this book. Readers who love series like John Sandford’s Prey series, or Marc Cameron’s Arliss Cutter series will love this book. I’d also recommend this if you enjoyed Noelle W. Ihli’s Ask for Andrea we read earlier this year – this gave me similar vibes with the deep woods, edge-of-your-seat mystery.
Wildwood will hit shelves January 6th, but you can preorder a copy at all your favorite retailers. Preorder yours today on our Bookshop.org page!
