October brings earlier sunsets and one of my favorite holidays – All Hallows Eve! And what better way to celebrate than with the color black. Signifying darkness and spook, our theme this month will help put us in the mood for all things eerie at the end of the month!

Over the past few years, we’ve read a few books that fit with this theme. Here’s the ones that received full reviews on the site:
- Code Talker, Joseph Bruchac
- Party of Liars, Kelsey Cox
- Nights in Rodanthe, Nicholas Sparks
- The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee, David Treuer
- We Are All Guilty Here, Karen Slaughter
- The Woman in Me, Britney Spears
Looking for more? Here’s a few you might like:
Black Covers
- Dracula, Bram Stoker
- The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins
- The Never Open Desert Diner, James Anderson
- Twilight, Stephenie Meyer
Black in the Title
- Black Beauty, Anna Sewell
- Black Cake, Charmain Wilkerson
- The Black Echo, Michael Connelly
- Orange is the New Black, Piper Kerman
What books would you add to this list?
When I think of music for this theme, I immediately think of Black Sabbath or “Black Betty”. I really enjoyed being reminded of so many other songs, albums, and artists with “black” in the name! This is a slightly longer playlist, sitting at 90 minutes on the dot. I hope you enjoy!
