News and Updates

Welcome to the new newsletter format for our Sunday Updates! Last week, I mentioned that I haven’t been able to keep up with my family commitments and my commitments here, so we are shaking things up a bit. You will still get our Sunday update (this) and our Saturday preview of a great upcoming book release. But starting today, our other book reviews will only be published on Instagram, so make sure you follow us there! I’m also hoping this will free me up to post more articles with some of the bookish content I’ve missed sharing. Let me know what you think about this new format in the comments!

This Week

With the start of a new month, we are starting all new reading prompts for the Read With Lindsey 2025 Reading Challenge. I’ve included the October list in full at the end of this post, but I’ll have ideas and recommendations for the prompts in the newsletter ever week. It also means it’s time for our new Reading Playlist and to talk about our new monthly theme – Black. Check back here on Thursday for more!

Reading Challenge: About A teacher

With school back in session across America, I thought now would be the perfect time to honor our teachers! I chose Charlotte Bronte’s debut work The Professor for this prompt. Although not released until after her death, the novel is classic Bronte, perfect for fans of Jane Eyre.

Following a young man who is in need of a new career and a new place to live, this novel explores religious stereotypes and the education practices standard in 1800’s Europe. It also features an accidental love triangle – the trope that made the Bronte works so famous.

New This week

The Mad Wife received 4.8 Stars from us in August. This is the third novel from author Megan Church and provides a look at motherhood, and mental health, in the 1950s. I connected with the main character in this book in a way I never expected. Church provides twists and surprises until the very end! The book releases Tuesday, but you can read my full review and grab the link to our Bookshop page to snag your own copy here.

      Last Week’s Prompt

For last week’s prompt “Set in a National Park”, I chose On Location by Sarah Echavarre Smith which received 4.2 stars from me. This is a really great meet-cute, missed-connection romance that will transport you to the National Parks in Utah, like Arches, Bryce Canyon, and Zion. I love the behind-the-scenes action on a TV travel documentary and the way the characters stood up against a bully. However, the ending felt a little out of place and left me wondering if the author was try to set up a sequel?

I didn’t get to post a review of this one, but know that it was a book I did not want to put down! I’ll make sure reviews of the books for our prompts hit Instagram on Wednesdays moving forward – follow us!

      Last Week’s Article

We announced our Top Book of September last week – Confronting Evil by Bill O’Reilly and Josh Hammer. This book details the actions of some of history’s most vile men of power. Starting with Genghis Khan and progressing through the centuries to cover the robber barons of America, the Axis Powers of Europe, and Mexico’s drug cartels, I learned so many bits of information I had never heard before in this book! You can read the full review here.

We read some great books in September, including another 5-Star release – Christmas at the Ranch. Visit our monthly review for the full rundown on books we rated last month.

      Last Week’s Preview

Our preview book last week was I’ll Be Home for Christmas by Jenny Bayliss. This was the second holiday romance of three that I read in the past few weeks. I loved the cultural aspects of the Krampus run and Holiday Market. Recieving 3.9 stars, it did fall a little flat. I was alsmost disappointed at how similar this felt to Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic series or The Good Witch TV show – I nearly put it down after the first chapter. You can read our full review of this cute holiday romance here. It’s actually on shelves now, so grab your copy today!

      Reading Challenge Prompts

Are you reading along with us for October? Here’s the full list of our upcoming weekly prompts. Not up for reading a book every week? That’s ok – we have a once-a-month prompt, too! Our monthly theme for October is Black – look for a book with a black cover or black in the name.
