This Week: September 14th

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! This annual observation begins tomorrow and we are honoring it with our challenge prompt this week. Beyond just books, we are also celebrating in our home for the next 4 weeks by enjoying great meals and music inspired by Hispanic cultures worldwide. By the way – if you’re looking for a great Hispanic cookbook, check out Latinisimo by Sandra Gutierrez…fantastic!

Outside of Hispanic Heritage Month, we are also reading several other good books. In our quest to read biographies of all our American presidents, we are progressing to number 10 – John Tyler. And, while it might still be a little early, we are also starting a series of cute holiday romances coming to your favorite bookstore soon!

Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 38: By a Hispanic Author

Velvet Was the Night

by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Posting on Tuesday, September 15th

Inspired by real events in 1970’s Mexico, the author takes readers on a wild ride in this book. Romance, murder, and mystery make this historical thriller amazing.

Here’s some other great options for this prompt:

John Tyler: The accidental president

by Edward P. Crapol

Posting Thursday, September 18th on Instagram

I honestly don’t think I knew anything about President Tyler before reading this book! This is a great coverage of his life including why he was called the “accidental president” and his Texas legacy.

Sponsored Read – Week 38

Christmas at the Ranch

by Julia McKay

Posting on Saturday, September 20th

A holiday romance turns into a missed connection romance in this soon-to-be-released novel. It could also be considered a small-town or western romance – small-town horse ranch owner courts a journalist running away from a family disaster.
