It won’t be long before the leaves start to change colors and one of my favorite seasons will be upon us – Autumn! I love watching the leaves turn orange and feel the weather turn cooler. This is the point in the year when my heart starts begging for a weekend in the mountains, too – something we didn’t get to do last year after Hurricane Helene. We still have about 2 months till we’ll be back in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but until then, I’m enjoying the leaves and sipping hot beverages under my blankets while I read!

Over the past few years, we’ve read a few books that fit with this theme. Here’s the ones that received full reviews on the site:
- The Burning of Washington, Anthony S Pitch
- The Invention of Wings, Sue Monk Kidd
- The Good Part, Sophie Cousens
- Horse, Geraldine Brooks
- Just Don’t Fall, Emma St Clair
- Killers of the Flower Moon, David Grann
- Long After We Are Gone, Terah Shelton Harris
- Love, Naturally, Sophie Sullivan
- Mad Honey, Jodi Picoult & Jennifer Finney Boylan
- The Secret Order of the Scepter & Gavel, Nicholas Ponticello
- When You Trap a Tiger, Tae Keller

What books would you add to this list?
I found myself giggling while building our playlist this month! So many Western European languages use the same word with a slightly different pronunciation for “orange”, but our playlist also has a shoutout to my Lego-loving 9-year-old with a song that was featured in some of the Lego shows. I hope you have been enjoying our playlists this year based on color – I’m working on reading challenge for 2026 and have some ideas for some fresh monthly themes, but I’m not sure how the playlist will fit in yet.
