August Recap & September Prompts

August was a tough month for our house – first full month of school and first illness during school kept us busy and distracted from our reading! We did read so many great books, but their full reviews may not have made it to the site. My goal is to get all of September’s up on schedule!

In August, I reviewed 11 books – 6 audiobooks and 5 physical copies. Let’s take a look back the reviews of those books – click below to visit the reviews:

August brought 2 5-star books to our list! Both of these books have been out for some time, but I’m so glad I finally had a chance to sit down and read them! I first learned of Peter Stark’s Gallop Towards the Sun at the Atlanta History Center two years ago and had been holding on to the book till I read about President William Henry Harrison to enjoy this one. I have heard about Noelle W, Ihli’s Ask for Andrea for a while, too, with it’s ripped-from-the-headlines type of thrill. Both of these books were fantastic for very different reasons and, like usual, it was a tough choice. However, Ask for Andrea received a perfect 5.0 rating from me this month and it was the clear top choice! The domestic thriller kept me guessing down to the final scenes and I want so much more of these characters! The new Deluxe edition comes out in October, but I’ve already pre-ordered…I can’t wait to see this gorgeous cover and stenciled edges in person!

September Reading Plan

When do the leaves start changing colors where you are? Here in Georgia, the mountain cities start seeing the influx of leaf peepers towards the end of September, so I thought it would be a great time to use the color Orange for our monthly prompt! The orange leaves are some of my favorites! Do you have a favorite leaf color? My favorite place to see the leaf colors in the Fall is the National Parks and Forestry areas – it’s why we are reading books set in National Parks late in the month!

This month, we’re also honoring Hispanic Heritage Month as it begins on the 15th. I am also continuing our journey of reading books related to school with a book we read in high school. But our first prompt this month goes back to a funny experience I had in my first book club – we were trying to use food prompts each month to help us choose book, only none of us had much luck finding an appropriate book with fruit on the cover! It’s an inside joke now with our group – any time we can’t figure out what to read for a prompt, we say we found a “bad apple”.

A few sponsored books I’m reading this month:

  • Confronting Evil, Bill O’Reilly & Josh Hammer
  • Tom Clancy Terminal Velocity, M.P. Woodward
  • I’ll be Home for Christmas, Jenny Bayliss

I can’t wait to read these great books with you – keep an eye out for the weekly previews on Sundays for what I’m reviewing each week!
