Ask for Andrea

Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

He seemed like a great guy.  He was kind, smart, and good looking – and was paying her attention when no other guy seemed to notice.  But there was something in the way he looked at her that was just a little off – was he too interested, or was it that he was too distant?  She would never find out – the drugs he dropped into her drink started to take effect and she couldn’t seem to make sense of what was going on.  Next thing she knew, she was looking down on the man who was standing over a girl lying motionless on the ground. A girl that was familiar…a girl that was her…

Ask for Andrea is the 2022 release from Noel W. Ihli that could have been dripped straight from the headlines.  Focused on the dangers of the modern dating world, this book will keep readers on the edge of their seat all the way to the final pages.  With a new deluxe version hitting shelves soon with stenciled edges and new cover art, this story is finding new life with readers today.  Murder mystery, family drama, and unlikely friendship rule as the characters sort through some of the most terrifying moments of their lives.

I give Ask for Andrea 5 out of 5 starsI was absolutely blown away by this novel!  The relatable characters and setting took me back to my days of internet dating and the creeps that filled my inbox.  It also reminded me of why it’s important to coach the young people around us how to protect themselves in the dating world.  One of my favorite aspects of this plot was the man’s homelife and the dangers he put his family in, too – this is so much more than a murder mystery with the aspect of domestic violence.  With multiple points of view, the story did feel a little jumbled at first, but the easy chapter length and language made it easy to overcome those challenges.

If you loved Alice Sebold’s The Lovely Bones or any of William Kent Krueger’s works, you will love this book.  I would recommend this to more mature readers over 16 given the domestic and dating violence aspects.  I think this would also make a great choice for a mystery book club with so much to unpack about the similarities and differences between each character.  I was excited to read this when it became available on Netgalley because I wanted something a little different than some recent romance reads and this definitely fit the bill.  The gorgeous cover art caught my eye first though and drew me right in.  You will not be disappointed by this book!

The new deluxe version of Ask for Andrea will hit shelves October 28th.  You can pre-order your copy today on our Bookshop.org page!
