And just like that, summer is over for our house! Tomorrow, my youngest starts his first day of 4th grade and we are all so very excited for what this year has in store for him. One thing I’m not excited about? Less time to read – so much more time in the car running between the school and activities! It’s one of the reasons I’m looking at short books this week that you can read in just a few short breaks at practice or while waiting in carpool. When do your kids head back?
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

A Single Rose
by Muriel Barbery
Posting on Tuesday, August 5th
This is an interesting foreign literature piece. Set in Asia and originally written in French, this is a romance with a dark undertone of immigration and abandonment.
Here’s some other great options for this prompt:
- Bestseller: Lord of the Flies, William Golding
- General Fiction: The Bridge of San Luis Rey, Thorton Wilder
- Romance: Austenland, Shannon Hale
- Thriller: Jaws, Peter Benchley
- Nonfiction: Homes: A Refugee Story, Abu Bakr al Rabeeah
