Everything is Probably Fine

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Muse Audiobooks for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Lorna demands excellence from her team and they tend to deliver, but boy can they get under her skin.  So much so that she writes letters to her sister making up insulting nicknames for them.  Lorna never would actually send the letters – she hasn’t talked to her sister in years – but it’s a great way to let off a little steam after a hard day.  At least that’s what she’s trying to tell her boss after she accidentally attached one of those letters to an email that went out to her entire team.  Now she has two choices – walk away from everything she’s built…or take a leave of absence and attend a mandatory wellness retreat.  Will she be able to regain her team’s trust or is her career done for?

Best-selling romance novelist Julia London is back with Everything is Probably Fine – her latest book hitting shelves this month.  London made a name for herself in the historical romance genre and has stepped into the modern romance novels with a bang in her most recent works.  With dual timelines, London explores the depths of the pain addiction can cause within a family and how long that trauma can last.  This is a story about forgiving those who hurt us, and forgiving ourselves, too.

I give Everything is Probably Fine 4 out of 5 starsThe one aspect of this book that had me in awe above all else is the way London tackles mental health.  From addiction to anxiety, the author explores realistic examples of what mental illness can look like and the consequences of decisions made because of those illnesses.  I also really appreciated the interpersonal connection between Lorna and her neighbors – it shows how people who are so different can support each other and come together as a community.  It did feel like the ending was rushed and missing something though – it was the only reason I could not give this book full stars.

I was excited to have the opportunity to read this book via NetGalley.  I chose the audio version of this book and enjoyed the narrator and pace of the book.  I love the premise of this book – it’s so relatable in this day to have managers and leaders who are burned out and make poor decisions, needing mental health breaks.  If you enjoy works by Courtney Walsh or Emma Lord, I think you’ll enjoy London’s works, too.

Everything is Probably Fine will release August 12th.  You can pre-order your copy today on our Bookshop.org page!
