Catherine had it all – the business she’s spent the last decade building went public, she had a supportive family, and her marriage was great. Or so she thought. That was before she found out her husband was having an affair….with her sister. Now, here she is in Barbados, back where they had their honeymoon, running away from the surprise birthday party her office was throwing her, and trying to find herself again. What she finds is so much more.
That Birthday in Barbados is the second book in the Take Me There series from award winning author Inglath Cooper. With beautiful imagery and a story full of resort-style activities, this novel will transport you to the Caribbean for your own mental beach getaway. Cooper delivers her signature small-town romance, even if the setting for the story is anything but. Romance, family drama, and healing fill these pages and will keep readers enthralled till the very last page.

I give That Birthday in Barbados 4 out of 5 stars. I posted on our Threads feed that the first kiss scene in this book set my mind on fire! The slow burn lead up and the “will they or won’t they” exchange leading up to it were phenomenal at setting the stage for that scene. I appreciate the discussion of both physical and mental health restoration – it felt genuine to the storyline. This was such an easy and quick ready for me – I did not want to put it down!
With closed door sex scenes and some difficult discussions around health, this novel would be best directed to more mature audiences over 16. I would recommend this book for book clubs or readers looking for beach reads or vacation romances. If you enjoy books from authors like Carley Fortune, Josie Silver, or Emily Henry, you will enjoy this book!
I chose That Birthday in Barbados for the Read With Lindsey Reading Challenge prompt “about a birthday”. I really connected with Catherine’s need to avoid the big birthday celebration at this point in her life. I will also say the cover art immediately caught my eye when I was looking through the choices for this prompt – it is stunning! We still have a few days till my birthday, but I will be avoiding all big parties this year. I am opting for a quiet day with my family and a good book. How are you celebrating your birthday this year?
