Law of Attraction

This was not the way rookie DA Anna Curtis thought this case would turn out.  Her victim and star witness in a domestic violence case just recanted on the stand, opposing council keeps asking her out, and now the accused is being released.  Anna is worried about her witness, but isn’t sure what she can do to protect her now.  What Anna doesn’t know is her witness isn’t the only one in danger.

Law of Attraction is the first book in Allison Leotta’s Anna Curtis series, centered on the US District Attorney.  A former prosecutor herself, Leotta’s writing feels as if someone has pulled back the curtain to show the inner workings of the DA’s office.  Leotta crafts a crime drama and mystery that will keep readers guessing until the end!

I give Law of Attraction 4 out of 5 starsI liked this story, but this wasn’t a “shout it from the rooftops” type of like for me.  This was an easy read with short chapters, but was hard to follow at times.  The plot twists kept you guessing throughout.  Leotta delivers beautiful imagery and dialogue that will transport you to D.C. and into the courtrooms with these lawyers.  It just feels like something is missing though to push this to a full 5-star book.

With light references to sex and murder, this book would be best directed to audiences over 16.  I would also caution readers who may be sensitive to domestic violence.  If you like books by Karin Slaughter or Allison Brennan, I think you’ll love this book, too!

I chose Law of Attraction for the Read With Lindsey Reading Challenge prompt “set in Washington D.C.”  We are honoring the Independence Day holiday with this prompt – where we have read about the colonies in the past, I wanted to read something more current this year.  I have only been to D.C. once when I was in middle school, but felt like I was right back in the city and walking on the Mall.  Have you ever been in the city?  Tell me about your favorite places!
