This Week: June 15th

This week has brought a lot of challenging news stories and I’ve chosen to mostly stay off the internet and avoid TV news, which means I’ve had a lot of time to read and binge Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix. How have you been avoiding all the negativity this week?

This week, I’m excited to share some very interesting books. In celebration of Juneteenth, we are starting the week reading books about slavery. I’m also sharing another presidential biography and a fantastic upcoming release by one of my favorite authors!

Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 25: About Slavery

The 1619 Project

by Nicole Hannah-Jones

Posting on Tuesday, June 17th

Starting with an award-winning essay the author wrote, this book travels from the very first slave ship to land on American soil to recent matters. If you think you have no racial bias, I challenge you to read this book. I would also suggest the audio version to hear the contributors read their own words!

We have read so many great books featuring slavery in the past few years. Instead of sharing suggestions for various genres this week, I’d like to share a list of some of my favorites:

Martin Van Buren

I knew absolutely nothing about the 8th president before listening to this book. He really was unremarkable in general, but this book did show me some interesting points in his presidency and life I think you’ll find interesting, too!

Sponsored Read – Week 25

The Forget-Me-Not Library

by Heather Webber

Posting on Saturday, June 21st

I always get excited for Heather Webber’s work and this one did not disappoint! Featuring her signature magical realism and bird symbolism, this book delivers small-town romance, humor, and real-life drama that will make you fall in love with the town of Forget-Me-Not…and the author. You won’t want to put this one down!
