When our kids were younger, we decided to celebrate multicultural holidays in our house to help expose them to other traditions. One the kids enjoy the most is Lunar New Year! Both of my kids were born in the year of the Monkey which won’t circle back until 2028. Wednesday starts the year of the Snake – all about wisdom, sensitivity, and introverted observers.
Beyond celebrating Lunar New Year by reading books with snakes on the cover, we are also going to be looking back at our January reads. I can’t believe we’re already through the end of the month! I’m also reading the next installment in the Lucas Davenport series – so good!
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 5: With a Snake
Girl, Serpent, Thorn
by Melissa Bashardoust
Posting on Tuesday, January 28th
If you love Middle-Eastern folk tales, you will love this book! Part One Thousand and One Nights, part Tangled, this book is about the sacrifices made for family, and how easy it is to be trapped in a romance scam.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: Demon Copperhead, Barbara Kingsolver
- General Fiction: The Memoirs of Cleopatra, Margaret George
- Romance: The Midnight Lie, Marie Rutkoski
- Thriller: Snake Skin, CJ Lyons
- Nonfiction: Snake, Chris Mattison

I learned about this series a few years ago with the first Letty Davenport release, also a sponsored read. John Sandford delivers great police and domestic thrillers – this is no exception!
