Today’s post will be short…because I didn’t finish this one. Hard to follow would be an understatement. I know this received a Pulitzer Prize and I was so very excited to read it, but this was tough.
I will be the first to tell you that I generally push through and try to finish every book. This is only the second I have decided not to finish in the past year. In this case, I struggled through the first chapter and put the book down one night. I came back the next day and read the second chapter to see if it was any better, but it wasn’t. I just couldn’t keep going.
If you ever question if you should push through or choose to put a book down for good, remember that reading should be fun. If the book isn’t fun and you aren’t getting anything out of it, it’s your call to put it down. Deciding not to finish a book is sort of the opposite of those times you just can’t put a book down.
Not every book is meant for every reader and not every reader is meant for every book. Make the call that is right for you and make sure every book brings you joy.
