October Recap & November Prompts

October took us through a lot of holidays and fun reads. I really enjoyed reading books for Diwali and Halloween to get us in the spirit, but this month’s state reads were also fun! What was your favorite read or prompt this month?

In October, I reviewed 14 books – 9 audiobooks and 5 physical copies. Let’s take a look back the reviews of those books – click below to visit the reviews:

  • The After Party, Anton DiSclafani

Our 5-Star books took us back in history this month to WWII France, 1950’s United Kingdom, and Hollywood of the past 3 decades. You know I love history and this month really delivered. I loved each of the month’s 5-star books, but there was really one clear leader – Christmas with the Queen! The duo of Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb have delivered quite a few amazing books, but this one meant more to me. I have always been enthralled with Queen Elizabeth’s rise to the throne – the young girl who was never intended to be Queen and men vying for power around her. As a woman whose day job has her working in a male-dominated field, Elizabeth’s story has always been close to my heart. This particular book also hit home with its single mom heroine and her own struggle to make a path forward amongst her male collegues.

November Reading Plan

With the holiday season in full swing, is it any surprise our theme for November is “Thanksgiving”? This month is also Native American Heritage Month and sees the related National Day the day after Thanksgiving. We also see Veteran’s Day on the 11th and will be celebrating with a book about a military character.

This month’s prompts for the US States challenge are:

States:

  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • Washington
  • West Virginia

Other books I’m reading this month:

  • 45. Sponsored – The Lost House
  • 46. Nonfiction – James Monroe: A republican champion
  • 47. Sponsored – TBD
  • 48. TBR Stack – TBD

I can’t wait to read these great books with you – keep an eye out for the weekly previews on Sundays for what I’m reviewing each week!
