I can’t believe we are nearly at the end of another month – October has flown by! We are finishing out the month strong with lots of witchcraft and mystery and starting off the holiday season strong. The next few months will see us in full holiday mode, but I’ll also be planning for the 2025 Reading Challenge. I have a few changes in store to our reviews and some exciting non-reading related updates. Keep your eyes peeled for our updates over the next month!
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

US States Challenge – Week 44: Utah
The Never-Open Desert Diner
by James Anderson
Posting on Thursday, October 31st
This is a cross between a Cormac McCarthy book and an attempt at romance novel. If that sounds odd, it’s because it is. So odd. Not my favorite read of the month, but I can see why someone people have enjoyed it.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: My Story, Elizabeth Smart
- General Fiction: True Sisters, Sandra Dallas
- Romance: The Actor and the Housewife, Shannon Hale
- Thriller: Massacre at Mountain Meadows, Glen Leonard, Richard Turley, & Ronald Walker
- Nonfiction: Desert Solitaire, Edward Abbey
- Kids: Journey to Topaz, Yoshiko Uchida

I stumbled on this one while looking for books about witchcraft. Reminiscent of The House in the Cerulean Sea and bit of Practical Magic, this has been quite the fun read!
