Now’s a good time to check in on your reading challenge for the year. How are you doing? Still on track? If not, don’t worry! There’s nothing wrong with it taking longer, or not finishing – reading is supposed to be fun…and pushing yourself to read faster or more util it’s a chore just isn’t right! As I’m getting ready to plan out the 2025 challenge, I’m taking a hard look at the schedule and realizing that 3 books a week just isn’t sustainable for me. More to come, but expect some changes starting in January!
This week, we’re reading celebrity memoirs. We’ve read quite a few in the past year including those by Tina Fey, Leslie Jordan, Jessica Simpson, Viola Davis, and more. We are also visiting Tennessee and finishing the week with a little magic to get us in the holiday mood. What are you reading this week?
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 42: Celebrity Memoir
Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing
by Matthew Perry
Posting on Monday, October 14th
I’ve wanted to read this since I first heard about it. I grew up on Friends and Perry’s addiction battle has haunted me. This memoir is especially shocking given the recent arrests in the actor’s death – several of whom are discussed in the book.
Given that this is a nonfiction section, I’m holding off on giving a list here – you can search our reviews for the reviews pictured in the collage above.
Dictionaries
Posting on Wednesday, October 16th
Dictionaries are one of those things that almost seem antiquated these days with the advent of Google searches. We’ll be discussing our favorite digital and print versions, and why it’s important to keep a dictionary on your shelf!
US States Challenge – Week 42: Tennessee
Now is Not the Time to Panic
by Kevin Wilson
Posting on Thursday, October 17th
I’d heard a lot about this book in my book clubs, but I was not prepared for the chaos that is this novel. When a teenaged prank turns into a cult following, people get hurt and the kids suffer long-term effects. A warning – this one is not for the faint of heart.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: Before We Were Yours, Lisa Wingate
- General Fiction: Christy, Catherine Marshall
- Romance: Dance Away With Me, Susan Elizabeth Phillips
- Thriller: The Firm, John Grisham
- Nonfiction: Elvis & Me, Priscilla Presley
- Kids: Coat of Many Colors, Dolly Parton
Rotating Posts – Week 42: TBR Stack
The Village Healer’s Book of Cures
by Jennifer Sherman Roberts
Posting on Saturday, October 19th
With the October theme of Halloween Magic, I thought this was a great pull off my TBR stack. This was an Amazon First Read a while back. Healers, witch hunters, and a lot of magic. I can’t wait to read this one!
