The Book of Lost Names
by Kristin Harmel
Posting on Monday, September 30th
I have been a huge fan of Harmel’s work since reading The Paris Daughter last year. This is a gorgeous novel connecting present day survivors of the Nazi genocide with the struggles of Jewish families across Europe during WWII.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: All the Light We Cannot See, Anthony Doerr
- General Fiction: The Book Thief, Markus Zusak
- Romance: A Song for Summer, Eva Ibbotson
- Thriller: Until the Debt is Paid, Alexander Hartung
- Nonfiction: Peeling the Onion, Gunter Grass
- Kids: Why We Took the Car, Wolfgang Herrndorf

US States Challenge – Week 40: South Carolina
The Secret Life of Bees
by Sue Monk Kidd
Posting on Thursday, October 3rd
This is another writer I fell in love with last year. This novel wasn’t my favorite of her works I’ve read so far, but what a beautiful tale of finding your voice and coming of age in the time of segregation.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: The Invention of Wings, Sue Monk Kidd
- General Fiction: South of Broad, Pat Conroy
- Romance: Sullivan’s Island, Dorothea Benton Frank
- Thriller: The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, Grady Hendrix
- Nonfiction: Gullah Home Cooking the Daufuskie Way, Sallie Ann Robinson
- Kids: Brown Girl Dreaming, Jacqueline Woodson
Rotating Posts – Week 40: Nonfiction
The Burning of Washington
by Anthony S. Pitch
Posting on Saturday, October 5th
One of the most well-known stories from the John Madison presidency is the story of his wife Dolly packing up the White House in an attempt to save national treasures from the British invasion in 1814. This is not my favorite book due to the narration, but it does give some interesting details about the invasion!
