Happy Fall, y’all! This is the start of my FAVORITE time of the year! Cooler weather means sweaters and apples and beautiful leaf colors. It just really is my time of the year! This week we are honoring the new season by reading books featuring apples or leaves. We are also reading books set in Rhode Island and a great upcoming release perfect to get you in the holiday mood!
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 39: Featuring leaves or apples
The Simplicity of Cider
by Amy E. Reichert
Posting on Monday, September 23rd
This is a cute small town romance meets cozy romance novel that gives lots of behind the scenes peeks at life as an orchard owner. There’s a single dad romcom angle here, but that almost becomes problematic for me in a different way.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: Apples Never Fall, Liane Moriarty
- General Fiction: At the Edge of the Orchard, Tracy Chevalier
- Romance: The Apple Orchard, Susan Wiggs
- Thriller: Apple of My Eye, Claire Allan
- Nonfiction: Apples, Frank Browning
- Kids: Pinkalicious: Apples, Apples, Apples! Victoria Karr

US States Challenge – Week 39: Rhode Island
The Lost Summers of Newport
by Beatriz Williams, Lauren Willig, and Karen White
Posting on Thursday, September 26th
I really like the premise of this book, but some of the writing was tough for me. With triple timelines, murder mysteries, and romance throughout, this one felt like it would be right up my alley. It also has a bit of a historical fiction vibe.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: Sing You Home, Jodi Picoult
- General Fiction: The Witches of Eastwick, John Updike
- Romance: A Hundred Summers, Beatriz Williams
- Thriller: Moonlight Becomes You, Mary Higgins Clark
- Nonfiction: The Big House, George Howe Colt
- Kids: Old Salty Dog, Seth McCombs

The Christmas Inn
by Pamela Kelley
Posting on Saturday, September 28th
This is a beautiful cover, right? Kelley delivers a cute romance novel set in a bed and breakfast. With mother-daughter main characters and a cast of town citizens, this is a great choice for readers who love The Gilmore Girls!
