Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard have explored history together over 12 best-selling books in their “Killing” series, including the lives of several American presidents. Now they are taking a look at each president from Washington to Obama. Confronting the Presidents shares some little-known facts about each man’s tenure in our nation’s highest office and makes connections between them you may never have heard before. This is a book relevant to today’s environment as the nation begins to investigate and determine our candidates for the next election. With their signature “no spin” fact telling and a drive to educate the American people on our past, the authors have delivered yet another master course in our history.

I give Confronting the Presidents 5 out of 5 stars. As an avid history reader, especially around the Presidential office, this book was a mix of facts I know well, and some I’d never heard. The authors take time to show the backstory of each president including their personal relationships and conflicts they had during their administration. Reading works by these authors is always enlightening and often feels like the listening to two history buffs excitedly share information the just learned in their research. This is especially true of the finale to the book – essays by each author on our two more recent Presidents: Trump and Biden.
This is a great book for the history lovers and would make a great gift. I could also see this being used by college professors as supporting literature for an American History or Presidential History course. If you are looking for a starting place to learn more about the great (and not so great) men who have led our country, this is a wonderful overview of the past 250 years.
I have long enjoyed O’Reilly and Dugard’s writings in the “Killing” series, so I was excited to see Confronting the Presidents available on Netgalley this month! I chose the audio version of the book which did not disappoint. I am excited to see where this pair go next on their exploration of American history!
Confronting the Presidents will release on September 10th, but you can preorder your copy today in our Bookshop.org store!
