Reading for Laughs

When I first decided to include the prompt “written by a comedian” in the Read With Lindsey Reading Challenge this year, I immediately thought of Tina Fey. However, in researching other books that might be a good fit for this week’s prompt, I discovered so many more books written by some of my favorite comedians. While not all of their books are laughing matters, I did want to share some of my favorites, both those I’ve read and the ones I have in my TBR stack. Here’s a quick list you might want to check out:

  • Born a Crime, Trevor Noah
  • Born Standing Up, Steve Martin
  • I Am America, Stephen Colbert
  • Like a Lampshade in a Whorehouse, Phyllis Diller
  • The Bedwetter, Sarah Silverman
  • Why Not Me, Mindy Kaling
  • Yes Please, Amy Poehler

Sometimes the funniest books are by people who aren’t really known as comedians though. My favorite of these authors is Jenny Lawson who has produced works like:

  • Broken
  • Furiously Happy
  • I Choose Darkness
  • Let’s Pretend This Never Happened
  • You Are Here

There are plenty of other authors who have produced some of the funniest books around. I’d love to hear what your favorite funny book or author might be – drop it in the comments!
