This Week: July 28th

We are back from vacation and back to reviewing some really good books this week! We really had a blast visiting some great landmarks around the Bristol area – the caverns, historic sites, and lots of independent bookstores. We came home with so many new-to-us books! How did you spend this last week?

Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 31: About Siblings

Before We Were Yours

by Lisa Wingate

Oh my! This book has been on my radar for a while – a family of children split up by an adoption racket, bad foster homes, and adoptive parent hope. As a child who was given up for adoption at birth, I have always been fascinated with how modern adoption became what it is today. This is a great look into the seedy history that has shaped the adoption world today, as well as foster care and orphanages.

US States Challenge – Week 31: New Mexico

Night at the Fiestas

by Kirstin Valdez Quade

This is another book that’s been on my radar for a while. It’s really a group of short stories set in Southwest that explores the unique culture and traditions of the area. The short stories are a bit disjointed, and it almost feels like listening speakers at a storytellers’ conference.

A Season of Perfect Happiness

by Maribeth Fischer

Posting on Saturday, August 3rd

The cover of this book drew my attention right away! I love those lights and that sunset! However…this one has a bit of a dark turn on it. I’m about halfway through right now – it feels more suspense than women’s lit. We’ll see what we think of it at the end…
