It’s officially my birthday week and, by the time this posts, I’ll be on my road trip vacation! We are headed north for a few days of celebrating without kids in tow – this October also marks 10 years since we were married, so we’re making the most of this vacation! Even though I’ll be away from my computer for the next 7 days, I’ve got plenty of good reviews queued up and ready for you this week. Also – keep an eye on our Instagram account. We’ll be stopping at some independent bookstores along the way and taking you with us!
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 30: Numerals in the Title
Size 12 is Not Fat
by Meg Cabot
Posting on Monday, July 22nd
Given that it’s my birthday week, I thought something with numbers in the title would be a fun prompt! I had trouble finding one I hadn’t read though! This is a really cute cozy mystery with a former pop star turned assistant director of a college dorm searching for the truth behind some mysterious happenings in her building!
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: 1984, George Orwell
- General Fiction: Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore, Robin Sloan
- Romance: November 9, Colleen Hoover
- Thriller: The 39 Steps, John Buchan
- Nonfiction: 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, Yuval Noah Harari
- Kids: 101 Dalmatians, Justine Korman
I’m on vacation!
No Wednesday post this week – we’re on our road trip! Keep an eye on our Instagram account for photos of our adventures!
US States Challenge – Week 30: New Jersey
In the Unlikely Event
by Judy Blume
Posting on Thursday, July 25th
I grew up with Blume’s books like Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Freckle Juice, so I was excited to have an opportunity to read a more adult book like this! Based on the true story of several plane crashes around a New Jersey airport, this is a fantastic look at the effects on a community after a disaster like this.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: The Radium Girls, Kate Moore
- General Fiction: One for the Money, Janet Evanovich
- Romance: A Little Light Magic, Joy Nash
- Thriller: On the Street Where You Live, Mary Higgins Clark
- Nonfiction: Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen
- Kids: Cheaper by the Dozen, Frank B Gilbreth
