Memorial Day Reads

According to Wikipedia, Memorial Day was first celebrated in 1868 to honor the Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. It was updated in 1971 to its current observance on the last Monday in May and to honor all who have been killed in military service. I have always looked at this holiday through the viewpoint of World War II. There were so many lost and those losses were well documented, making World War II the first time the public had a full understanding of the loss of life through photos, broadcasts, and memoirs.
