We’ve nearly made it through another month! How are you doing with the reading challenges? What’s been your favorite prompt so far? Drop me a note in the comments!
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 9: By an African-American author
Their Eyes Were Watching God
by Zora Neale Hurston
Posting on Monday, February 26th
I have heard this book title for decades, but never had the opportunity to pick it up again until now. More recently, this book came up while reading Africatown due to Hurston’s connection and repeated visits to the village. If you loved The Color Purple or The Secret Life of Bees, you’ll love this book! This book also fits for our state prompt of the week – Florida.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Best Seller: Rare Danger, Beverly Jenkins
- General Fiction: The Color Purple, Alice Walker
- Romance: The Davenports, Krystal Marquis
- Mystery/Thriller: When No One is Watching, Alyssa Cole
- Nonfiction: Becoming, Michelle Obama
- Kids: The Good Turn, Sharna Jackson

US States Challenge – Week 9: Florida
Stiltsville
by Susanna Daniel
Posting on Thursday, February 29th
This was an interesting read for me. After spending a good bit of time in South Florida last year, it was interesting to read a story set in the places I visited! It’s actually set in similar places to Their Eyes Were Watching God, so I got a good dose of Miami and the surrounding areas this week! If you liked Kinfolk by Sean Dietrich, this is the book for you!
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston
- General Fiction: The Last Train to Key West, C. Cleeton
- Romance: Love’s Rescue, Christine Johnson
- Thriller: Rum Punch, Elmore Leonard
- Nonfiction: Devil in the Grove, Gilbert King
- Kids: Because of Winn-Dixie, Kate DiCamillo
