Friendly reminder – Valentine’s Day is this week! Do you celebrate? I have several friends who are anti-Valentine’s for one reason or another. If that’s you, don’t worry – I have you covered this week, too!
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

Chocolate Wars: The 150-year rivalry between the world’s greatest chocolate makers
by Deborah Cadbury
Posting on Monday, February 12th
Would you believe I didn’t put it together that the author is part of the Cadbury chocolate dynasty until I was a few chapters into this book? The author is a historian and documentarian by trade, and this book comes across much the same. It’s a great read if you love chocolate – she discusses the struggle to find the right ingredient mix for the perfect chocolate bar and more recent corporate take overs by big names in the food industry.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Best Seller: A Court of Thorns & Roses, Sarah J Maas
- General Fiction: The Rose Code, Kate Quinn
- Romance: Chocolat, Joanne Harris
- Mystery/Thriller: Wrapped in Death & Chocolate, C.S. Patra
- Nonfiction: The Emperors of Chocolate: Inside the Secret World of Hershey and Mars, Joel Glenn Brenner
- Kids: Snow White & Rose Red, Grimm Brothers

Murder in Tolland
by David M Hamlin
Posting on Thursday, February 15th
What happens when you return to your childhood hometown – will it be the same…or has everything changed? For Demetrius Clarke, it’s the same, but different. When a murder mystery takes over the town, the mystery writer is roped into helping solve the case. This gives off Murder She Wrote vibes, but small-town chaos, too. After finishing it, I quickly checked to see if it was part of a series – I’d love to spend more time with these characters, but this was just released a few months back with no sequel in sight…yet.
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: Vision in White, Nora Roberts
- General Fiction: Revolutionary Road, Richard Yates
- Romance: Blue Jeans and Coffee Beans, Joanne DiMaio
- Thriller: Housebreaking, Dan Pope
- Nonfiction: Without Reservation, Jeff Benedict
- Kids: A Wrinkle in Time, Madeline L’Engle

The Secret Order of the Scepter & Gavel
by Nicholas Ponticello
Posting on Saturday, February 17th
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for this book! I first connected with him on Threads (do you follow us there?). I wasn’t sure what to expect – even he told me this book is outside my normal genres, but I loved it! This is a dual timeline murder mystery that kept me guessing who did it up until the big reveal! I had so many other ideas of where this story was going to go and loved seeing it all unfold!
