This week brings us to several of my favorite topics to discuss! When I was in high school, we were required to read so many classic books (those written before 1900) and I struggled to get connected with the writing back then. Now, they are some of my favorite books to revisit! We are also going to be discussing my favorite cookbooks and digging in to one of the books on my TBR Stack, too!
Here’s the books I’m looking forward to discussing with you this week. Grab your copies of these books by clicking the images below:

RWL Reading Challenge – Week 4: Written Before 1900
Frankenstein
by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
Posting on Monday, January 22nd
I know that I read this book in high school but couldn’t remember any of the true details. If you’ve ever heard the line about Frankenstein being the creator, not the monster, then you’ll understand the meaning behind “true details”. There are so many misconceptions about this book, mostly because people watched the movies instead of reading the book!
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Best Seller: Little Women, Louisa May Alcott
- General Fiction: The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne
- Romance: Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
- Mystery/Thriller: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
- Nonfiction: The Art of War, Sun Tzu
- Kids: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain
Cookbooks
Posting on Wednesday, January 24th
This is a literary genre that is usually overlooked by people at the library or in reviews, but it’s one of my favorites! I love to cook and bake, but I’m mostly self-taught. Back before there was Pinterest or even Google searches, I borrowed cookbooks from friends or family to learn new recipes. I’ll share some of my favorite cookbooks of all time, including a few I picked up at author events!
US States Challenge – Week 4: Arkansas
Cottonmouths
by Kelly J. Ford

If you enjoyed Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, I think you’ll like this one. It was a bit of a slow start for me, but I couldn’t put it down towards the end!
Here’s some other great books that would work for this prompt in popular genres:
- Bestseller: Sugar, Bernice L. McFadden
- General Fiction: The Homecoming of Samuel Lake, Jenny Wingfield
- Romance: The Witness, Nora Roberts
- Thriller: A Painted House, John Grisham
- Nonfiction: A Mighty Long Way: My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High School, Carlotta Walls Lanier
- Kids: The Lions of Little Rock, Kristin Levine

Same Time Next Year
by Tessa Bailey
Posting on Saturday, January 27th
This was one of my Kindle First Reads a few months ago. You may know Bailey from her best-selling series like the Bellinger Sisters or Hot & Hammered. This new stand alone book is cute…and quite steamy!
