Louisa Clark isn’t sure she made the right decision to move to New York. She’s had a crazy few years – Will Trainor’s death, falling off her building, falling in love with the paramedic, and deciding to follow Will’s instructions to say yes to her dreams. However, this is a new kind of chaos she’s not sure she’s ready for. Her new boss is hiding things, the staff hate her, and the neighbors in their building are bonkers! Shining amongst the absurd is nothing new for Louisa, but can she make it work this time?
Still Me is the final book in the Me Before You trilogy from Jojo Moyes. Moyes is an award-winning author and New York Times bestseller, and this book is no different, winning the 2018 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Fiction. Moyes writes a beautiful narrative showing the long-lasting effects of the traumas Louisa has experience as she works to move forward with life. This book is all about how the past is never really behind you.

I give Still Me 4 out of 5 stars. I read the first two books in this series in 2022 and rated them 5 and 4 stars each, respectively. I love the vulnerability and flaws Moyes writes into Louisa’s character making her realistic. She is a character I want to be best friends with! However, I felt like some of the relationships shown in this novel were unnecessary and felt contrived only for the drama. I also felt like the characters of Joshua Ryan and Leonard Gopnik could have been better developed – some of their decisions felt out of left field and I couldn’t connect with their characters. However, I loved the inclusion of so many landmarks and traditions famous in NYC!
If you love Moyes’ other works, especially the first two books in this series, you’ll love this novel as well! While it could be read as a standalone, I think you would benefit from the backstory of both Louisa and Sam’s characters before reading this storyline. With discussions of sex, adultery, and trauma, this book may be best directed at more mature audiences over 13.
I chose Still Me for the Booklist Queen Reading Challenge prompt “the bottom of your TBR stack”. I can’t believe it’s been a year since I read the first two in this series! Moyes is one of my favorite authors – books like The Giver of the Stars and Someone Else’s Shoes have been a joy to read this past year! Similar to Alice Hoffman’s and Marc Cameron’s works, I’m on a mission to read through all her books over the next few years! Do you have a favorite author you return to again and again? Share in the comments – I’m always looking for great authors to add to my list!
