Holiday Romance

Molly knows Andrew have a unique connection – not only is he dating her friend, the are both Irish attending college in Chicago.  When they end up seatmates for the long flight back to Ireland, they are thrilled at first.  That is, until Molly’s friend calls Andrew to break up with him resulting in a very awkward time together.  Again and again, they end up on the same flight home every Christmas, developing a unique friendship.  When their 10th flight together gets delayed and then cancelled, the pair go on an adventure through several countries and against so many challenges to get to their families just in time for Christmas morning.

Catherine Walsh’s Holiday Romance is a cute romance novel that could easily transfer to the small screen.  Walsh is known for her great romance stories with relatable characters and storylines that make you swoon.  This book is all about finding friendship and more in unexpected places, and the value of family at the holidays.

I give Holiday Romance 4 out of 5 stars.  This is actually one of the higher rated books I’ve read for December at 4.6 stars, but it was just a bit too “Hallmark Movie” for me.  I really enjoyed the flash backs to each of the couple’s first 9 flights, compared against the events of the 10th.  I also appreciate the way Walsh puts emphasis on family throughout.  This book had me smiling so big and had my husband demanding I put it down to go to sleep!

I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a cute travel romance novel for the holiday.  With the inclusion of sexual relations and drinking, as well as a character choosing to go sober, this book would be best directed to more mature audiences over 16.  I think this would be a great book to read with girlfriends or sisters on a trip, too!

I chose Holiday Romance for the Booklist Queen Reading Challenge prompt “a holiday romance”.  When I first starting looking for a book for this prompt, I Googled “holiday romance novel” and this was the first result – rather ironic, but also a perfect fit!  By the way, this is not Walsh’s only holiday romance – her more recent release Snowed In fits the bill, too!  If you’re looking for a quick read to keep you entertained on your holiday trip – grab this one today!

From our family to yours – Merry Christmas!
