Agenda: Week of September 17th

I’m very excited for a VERY busy week ahead of us! I’ll be attending two author events, celebrating a holiday honoring one of my favorite books, and discussing several great books! To grab your copies, click the images below:

On a Night of a Thousand Stars

by Andrea Yaryura Clark

Posting on Monday, September 18th

Prompt: Set in South America

I can remember reading about the Dirty War in Argentina in a World History course in college, but I don’t remember much of the details. It seemed like a world away in both distance and time. This historical fiction novel recounts some of the more barbaric events in the period between 1974 and 1983 and juxtaposes them against current events and a more recent timeline.

New Release Tuesday

Posting on Tuesday, September 19th

Author Event: Erika Council discussing Still We Rise

Posting on Wednesday, September 20th

At the Atlanta History Center

This is the first of two author events this week, and my first about a cookbook! As a southern baker, I love biscuits and the idea of so many different recipes about them!

The second author event is a photo op and book signing only…keep an eye on our Instagram feed for more about it Wednesday!

Hobbit Day

Posting on Thursday, September 21st

Hobbit Day is officially September 22nd, but I thought a day ahead would be fitting for this post. Last year, I took a challenge to eat like a hobbit for a day. Doesn’t sound hard, right? But there’s so many meals!! This post will recount my adventure in true Baggins fashion and give you a sample meal plan if you’d like to attempt the journey yourself!

Code Talker

by Joseph Bruchac

Posting on Native American Day, Friday, September 22nd

Prompt: Native American Day

I am excited to find the opportunity to read this book! My grandfather fought in World War II in the European theater. While he didn’t serve there alongside Code Talkers, he was stationed with a pair in California on his way to the Pacific theater just before Victory was announced. Grandpa shared some great tales about his fellow military men. This book will follow one fictional Code Talker from childhood through to his service in WWII and confront some difficult moments in our nation’s relationship with the Navajo people.

TripTych

by Karin Slaughter

Posting on Saturday, September 23rd

Prompt: A detective story

Did you watch the Will Trent series on ABC earlier this year staring Ramón Rodríguez? It was an instant hit for our family, so I immediately put the book series that inspired it on my TBR list! Word of warning – as of this posting, I’m about halfway through the book and it doesn’t line up with what we know of the characters from TV. It’s not exactly bad….just not the same. Just another time where I wish I’d read the book first!
