New Release Tuesday – 8/22/2023

Best part of Tuesdays? New books!! Today’s list is mostly kids books, but there are some great ones to add to your shelves! Which ones are you picking up?

You can order your copies by clicking the images below.

Dead Mountain

by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

The latest release in the Nora Kelly series follows FBI agent Corrie Swanson and archeologist Kelly as they investigate the mysterious deaths of a hiking party in the New Mexico mountains 15 years after they happened. This has thriller and mystery written all over it. The series is a best seller and this book should be no different!

Dream Town: Shaker Heights and the quest for racial equity

by Laura Meckler

Shaker Heights came up in two recent reads, so I was immediately drawn to this book on the list of new releases. A suburb of Cleveland, OH, this tiny town served as the shining example of integration for many decades, but still has an achievement gap in the population with a clear break based on race. Meckler is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and grew up in Shaker Heights, giving her a unique perspective on this struggle.

The Year of Second Chances

by Lara Avery

Do you love P.S. I Love You? Then you’ll love this new release! What would you do if you get an email saying your husband, dead for over a year, has signed you up for an online dating service? That’s exactly what happens to Robin. Reluctant, but wanting to honor her husband’s last wishes, she embarks on this journey and is surprised by the fun she has on the way!

Kids’ Books releasing today

Broken Crayons Still Color

by Toni Collier, Whitney Bak, & Natalie Vasilica

I heard this phrase a few years back. I was in the middle of a struggle with depression and screamed “I’m broken!” at my therapist, who quietly responded “but don’t broken crayons still color?” It’s been my mantra ever since. This is a great read for your elementary aged kids to help them understand the same thing – everyone has big feelings, no one is perfect, and that God can use us in our brokenness to make beauty in this world.

Learning to be Wild: How animals achieve peace, create beauty, and raise families

by Carl Safina

If you’ve read Safina’s book Becoming Wild, you’ll be familiar with the cast of animal characters here. He has adapted his best-selling work for young readers to show them how community and culture are important for all of us on Earth.

The Brand-New, Never-Used, Perfect Crayons

by Leanne Hatch

We all know that feeling when you open up a box of brand new crayons and see all the perfect little points looking up at you. That’s what Violet loves, too! So much so, that she won’t let anyone use her crayons…not even herself! I’m looking forward to this one for the textured drawings and beautiful illustrations!

Water Day

by Margarita Engle & Olivia Sua

Could you imagine living in a town with no running water supply? This town gets help from a water delivery every week, which brings all the residents together. I’m looking forward to this book for the papercut illustrations and honest depiction of life in this Cuban village. This will be a great catalyst to discuss the water crisis facing families worldwide with your little readers.
