What To Read This Week

I’m getting ready for a very busy week ahead! Between work, taking my youngest to the library to exchange his borrowed books, and a book signing on Wednesday, I have a full schedule! This week, we have 3 great reads to discuss, too!

The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek

by Kim Michele Richardson

Posting on Monday, August 14th

Prompt: Set in the 1930’s

If you liked Jojo Moyes’ The Giver of the Stars, you may enjoy this book. Both stories follow the Pack Horse Librarians in Kentucky, and both feature small-town hate for things that are “different”, but that’s about where the similarities end. This book focuses on the Kentucky Blues – a family tree of people who were genetically disposed to have a blue hue to their skin.

New Release Tuesday

Posting on Tuesday, August 15th

Little Fires Everywhere

by Celeste Ng

Posting on Thursday, August 17th

Prompt: About Adoption

Earlier this year, we read Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng – I immediately put this book on my TBR list! And yes, I know, this book isn’t specifically about adoption, but there is a storyline in the novel about a family trying to adopt!

Book Signing Recap

Posting on Friday, August 18th

I’ve got a few upcoming book signings or author talks on the schedule I’ll be sharing about! This week, I’ll have the pleasure of listening to Terah Shelton Harris discuss her recently released book One Summer in Savannah. This event will be at the Atlanta History Center – one of my favorite places in the city! If you will be there, too, drop me a note! I’d love to meet you!

The First Ladies

by Marie Benedict & Victoria Christopher Murray

Posting on Saturday, August 19th

Prompt: Contemporary Fiction Bestseller

This is another repeat author read! Earlier this year, we read The Personal Librarian by this pair and I’m excited to read another collaboration from them! This book follows the friendship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune. One reason I love this pair is they tackle the sometimes-sensitive topic of race in the historical context so well – I can’t wait to read this one!
