Favorite Book Characters

Have you ever read a book and walked away wanting to meet a character in real life? I’m not necessarily talking about swooning over a love interest, maybe just as a friend, or parent figure? This happens to me all the time! They aren’t even the main characters most of the time either, but I love them! Here’s a few of my favorites from books I’ve read the past year:

Dark Angel – Barbara Cartwright and John Kaiser. Kaiser was in both Letty Davenport novels released so far. I actually fell in love with him in the first book – his no-nonsense, take-charge way exudes safety, but his sense of humor and quick wit tops it off. For Cartwright, it’s all about the strong female character who’s good with guns – that is not something you see often from male writers, and I enjoy her addition in book 2!

The Getaway Girls – Connie, Gill & Maggie. I wish I had girlfriends like these three ladies! They remind me so much of my mom and her sisters. There is something special about the bond between women who have all been through struggles, coming together to help each other. I just want to grab a coffee and experience their laughter in real life!

LA Weather – Patricia. This sister is the epitome of who I was when I was younger. Failed romance (and marriage), traumatic past, but pushing through and trying to hold it all together for her child. With all the chaos going on around her, she keeps a (mostly) level head. She’s the kind of friend you want – someone who can sit beside you on the gloomy days but keep you laughing on the good. She’s also the kind to tell your ex what’s what!

The Candid Life of Meena Dave – the upstairs neighbors. I tend to like a little more space between myself and the neighbors (we live in farm country), but I would love to have neighbors like these who care enough to check on you when you’re sick. The way they helped Meena through her struggles and taught her about her heritage feels like family!

But my all-time favorite literary character is Mr Bennett from Pride and Prejudice! His snarky comments, while accepting that living in an all-female household means he probably won’t get his way, his sense of pride, and the way you can tell he inwardly cringes every time his wife pulls a stunt – I love him! He reminds me so much of my father-in-law and the way he would just go along with whatever crazy idea his wife thought up!
