New Release Tuesday – 8/1/2023

I’m so excited to talk about new books coming out today! One of our Most Anticipated Releases of 2022 hits stores today, along with so many other great books. Which ones are you picking up today?

At the Coffee Shop of Curiosities by Heather Webber

I wrote a full review of this new release a few months back – I give it 5 out of 5 stars! I’m a fan of this author and can’t wait to see what you think of her newest release, too! Full of magic and romance, this is a light beach-themed read perfect for the tail end of summer vacation for so many of us.

The Keeper of Hidden Books: A Novel by Madeline Martin

There are several WWII books coming out today, but this one caught my attention. A story about friendship and the power of books is always a must for me. This is a BookBub Best Historical Fiction pick for Summer 2023. From the author of The Last Bookshop in London, I can’t wait to read it!

Three Fires: A Novel by Denise Mina

History meets thriller meets today’s political climate. A 15th Century friar gives a series of sermons railing against the Medici ruling clan and the temptations in their society. The resulting Bonfires of Vanity had Florentine citizens burning anything that might cause them to sin including books, mirrors, musical instruments, and more. I’ve heard about the historical events but am interested to see how Mina links these to current political and societal events (like book bans).

Tom Lake: A Novel by Ann Patchett

I chose this one based on the cover at first, but I love Ann Patchett! The Dutch House was one of my favorite reads of 2022. In this book, Patchett delivers a poignant look at daughters connecting with their mother and comparing their lives to one another. With my own daughter leaving for college in a few weeks, I think this is coming out right on time!

Kids’ Books releasing today

Once Upon A Family by Amanda Rawson Hill

Your middle grade readers will love this one! Winnie’s blended family is making her unhappy. In an attempt to wish for something better, she stumbles upon a strange bird nest with golden eggs – each with a wish written on the shell. When an egg accidentally breaks, the wish gets granted, so Winnie tries to get her own wish taken care of the same way. But when things start going wrong, Winnie races to undo what she’s already done.

Smarty Ants by Corey Rosen Schwartz , Kirsti Call, & Erin Taylor

If you need to make math fun for your little reader, this is the book for you. The ants are building a house…and using simple addition, rhymes, and more. Help your kids see that math is used in even the most hands-on professions and it doesn’t have to be boring!

Stuff Kids Should Know: The Mind-Blowing Histories of (Almost) Everything by Josh Clark, Chuck Bryant & Nils Parker

I have a kid who likes to know the “why” behind everything he comes across. I’m picking this up specifically with him in mind! With silly illustrations, this book is full of little-known trivia that will keep your kids entertained!
