It’s New Release Tuesday AND Independence Day in the USA! While your favorite local bookshop might be closed for today’s holiday, you can go ahead and grab a copy of these new books from our Bookshop.org page with the links below!
A Good House for Children by Kate Collins – this is a horror/thriller book that will have your hair standing on end! Not my typical genre, but the cover and description caught my attention. It’s the tale of two women decades apart who both move into a mansion in Dorset. Both women begin to feel the presence of more than just the family in the home. While its grand layout makes it a good house for children, are the kids safe if they stay?
A Patriot’s Promise by Israel “DT” del Toro Jr & T. L. Heyer – this is a timely release on Independence Day! DT was a Special Warfare Operator in the US Air Force and suffered combat injuries. This memoir takes readers through his childhood and being orphaned, to his time serving in the military, to his battle to fight for wounded warriors across the world.
Goodbye Earl: A Revenge Novel by Leesa Cross-Smith – I have to admit…this one made the list solely because of the title and the fact it’s inspired by The Chicks song by the same name! Four friends come together to say bye to Earl, an abusive husband. The ultimate story of friendship and strength, this would make a great book club read!
President Garfield: From Radical to Unifier by C.W. Goodyear – I’m doing a deep dive into each president and am only on John Adams starting this month…it will be a while before I make it to our 20th president, but this book is going on the list! It’s a very timely biography – a lot of the dirty politics and divisiveness found in America today is similar to that of Garfield’s time. This well researched biography details how he overcame much of that turmoil to be elected and how his assassination helped change the course of politics in our country.
The Hate Next Door by Matson Browning & Tawni Browning – Matson is an undercover detective whose assignment was to gain the trust of white supremacy groups to take them down from the inside. This memoir recounts some of his most harrowing and poignant moments over his 25-year career and shows readers how to identify and combat their hate in our communities.
Kids’ Books releasing today
Clara Poole and the Long Way Round by Taylor Tyng – this is a middle grades coming of age story about forgiving yourself and learning how mistakes can shape our lives, but not derail them. Clara inadvertedly becomes the spokeskid for a competition to fly hot air balloons around the world all because her science project went haywire. But when her dad says no, she forges his signature and sets off. The journey is anything but safe, but shows Clara a whole world of possibilities.
In The Night Garden by Carin Berger – this gorgeous collage bedtime story will be a quick favorite for your young readers! Kids will have a blast looking for the curious kitty on every page while learning that things look different at night. Different, but not scary.
