Happy {early} Independence Day! For those of you with 4 day weekends to celebrate – I hope you’re finding lots of time to do things you love this weekend…like read! Are you looking for a good book to help you get in the mood for the holiday? Here’s a few I recommend!

For the history lover:
I’ve been working through a long list of biographies and histories around George Washington and his contemporaries for the past year. Here’s a few of my favorites:
You Never Forget Your First by Alexis Coe
Washington’s Immortals by Patrick K O’Donnell
The First Conspiracy by Brad Meltzer & John Mensch
Killing England by Bill O’Reilly & Martin Duggar
Valiant Ambition by Nathaniel Philbrick
By the way – if you love American History, check out other books by Brad Meltzer and Nathaniel Philbrick. I’m never disappointed when I pick one up!
If you’re looking for a good fiction book…
I recommend Mount Vernon Love Story by Mary Higgins Clark. This is my current read and it’s magnificent. The full review will come later this week, but for now…it feels as though I’m reading a diary. I told someone earlier today that it is a very well researched novel that overlies the facts related in the above books over the very personal relationships and tragedies that shaped who the Washingtons and their friends became during this era. This will be the capstone book on my deep dive into George Washington’s life – I’m moving on to President #2 this month – John Adams.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday!
