New Release Tuesday – 6/27/2023

Happy birthday to these new releases! I’m out of town this week for work, but I’ve already pre-ordered several of these from our Bookshop.org page – grab your copy with the links below, too!

Banyan Moon by Thao Thai – this was my Book of the Month club selection for June! I haven’t had a chance to dig in quite yet, but I’m looking forward to it! Ann and her estranged mother find themselves under the same roof after her grandmother’s death. The grandmother has left them both the family home – bringing them together in a way only she could. With dual timelines, mother-daughter drama, and stories from both Vietnam and the Florida swapland, this sounds like a great book!

Never Lose an Employee Again by Joey Coleman – finding good employees is tough. Keeping them can be harder. In this book, Coleman details how to create a great employee retention program with case studies and a breakdown of communication styles needed to effectively lead your company forward and minimize turnover.

The First Ladies by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray – this is the second book by this duo and I can’t wait to read it! Their first release was The Personal Librarian, which we reviewed in April. This pair puts the women who are typically forgotten by historians front and center in their work and brings race and culture along with them. This novel follows the story of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary McLeod Bethune, a civil rights activist and the daughter of former slaves. The ladies become fast friends and set the groundwork for what is the modern Civil Rights movement.

The Wife App by Carolyn Mackler – if you are a fan of The First Wives Club, put this in your shopping basket today! Three friends get together for drinks and to discuss the failures of their marriages and all the work their exes take for granted – childcare, housework, and more. They joke about starting an app to monetize all these chores – but when the joke turns into a fast moving start up, their lives begin to change!

Kids’ Books releasing today

Glitter Everywhere!: Where it came from, where it’s found and where it’s going by Chris Barton and Chaaya Prabhat – do you have a glitter aficionado in your house? We do…and it’s a mess! Help your kids understand their favorite decoration a little better with this book detailing how it’s made, why it sticks to EVERYTHING, and if it’s really bad for the environment.

Tenacious: Fifteen adventures alongside disabled athletes by Patty Cisneros Prevo and Dion Mbd – get to know 15 extraordinary athletes who use adaptive gear to compete for the gold! This is a beautiful book to help your little ones learn about those who might be differently abled and start a conversation about how to respect those differences.

The Probability of Everything by Sarah Everett – Kemi has to face challenges she doesn’t want to – a new town and an asteroid hovering near Earth to name a few. As she grapples with her new life, Kemi eventually decides to build a time capsule to show who her family really is. But saying goodbye is never easy. This is a great book for middle grade readers who may have friends moving away over the summer, or facing the loss of a favorite family member.
