Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, aunties and parents’ friends who acted as second moms, and all the foster moms and guardians who have acted as moms for even a few days. I am so honored to have so many great moms in my life and to be a mom to some awesome kiddos myself. My family is giving me exactly what I wanted today: breakfast in bed complete with heart-shaped hashbrowns and LOTS of alone time to read!
I was given one of the best presents yesterday, too – my first born graduated high school! This was a journey that included a lot of trial and error, but the outcome was beyond my expectations. She received Summa Cum Laude honors, as well as the Biblical Studies seal. This is only the beginning of her journey though – she will be going to Kennesaw State in the Fall to study Criminal Justice.
We were asked to provide a few photos for a slideshow yesterday during the ceremony. I’ve included them here in my own slideshow below, along with a handful of photos from yesterday’s ceremonies. One interesting note – after the ceremony, the Biblical Studies teacher knighted each graduate as a confirmation of their preparedness to go out into the world, strong in their faith, wearing the armor of God. The school also had the families set up a table for each graduate with photos, and a guest book, and keepsakes – Katie included some of her artwork and we also added a large matted photo for her classmates to sign!
I’m not crying….someone must be cutting onions in here! We really do love you KK – I am so thankful that you are the one who made me a mom!
If you’re still looking for a gift for the moms in your life, the best option today would be a gift card to their favorite bookstore! Bookshop.org can provide gift certificates that will support local independent bookstores if you can’t get to your mom’s favorite before you see her. The next best option? Grab a good book and inscribe the inside cover to your mom and include what makes her special to you!
