New Release Tuesday – 4/25/23

Happy book launch day for these great reads! There are great new memoirs from movie and TV stars, new releases in beloved series, and some great historical fiction! What are you picking up today?

An American Beauty by Shana Abe – As soon as I saw the cover for this one, it was in my cart over at Bookshop.org! This historical fiction takes on the life of America’s richest woman in the Gilded Age – Arabella Huntington. From the author of The Second Mrs. Astor, this book follows Arabella’s rise to society and wealth from a very humble beginning.

Breakneck by Marc Cameron – This is the 5th book in the Arliss Cutter series and I’m excited to see it! I was recently gifted the 4th book Cold Snap in a GoodReads giveaway and am reading it now. Based on the first 3 chapters, I can’t wait to finish that one and start this latest! Cameron is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and I expect only great things from this release!

Chita: A Memoir by Chita Rivera – when I think Chita, I think of her colorful and full skirts twirling in the air while she danced in famous roles on the stage and screen. This much anticipated memoir will bring to light to her upbringing and into the practice halls behind the scenes of so many of her productions. I’m a little bit excited for this one just for all the promised name dropping!

Happy Place by Emily Henry – if you’re looking for a lighter read, this one is tops on my list today. A group of friends is going on vacation together like they do ever year. Only, this year, one couple has a secret – they broke up 5 months ago. The couple decides to fake it and pretend they are still together since they haven’t told their friends yet. What’s the worst that can happen?

Honey, Baby, Mine by Laura Dern and Diane Ladd – How did I not know that Laura Dern is Diane Ladd’s daughter?! This memoir details very intimate conversations the pair had while Ladd was recovering from a serious illness. With family photos dispersed throughout, this book would make a great mother-daughter book read for the upcoming Mother’s Day holiday!

Mott Street by Ava Chin – this memoir traces Chin’s journey to find out about her family’s legacy. Her grandfather’s story doesn’t match the history she’d learned in school and she has questions. What she finds is a legacy of exclusion and a building in New York’s Chinatown where so many of her ancestors lived over the years.

Songs of America by Jon Meachum and Tim McGraw – Pulitzer Prize winning author Meachum and country music superstar McGraw team up to show how America really is a country built on music in this new book. Bringing history and music together, they show how melodies and lyrics helped to shape the direction of our society from it’s inception and the Star Spangled Banner. They marry important historical figures and the common songs of the time to write a narrative of who America really is.

Top Billin’ by Bill Bellamy – I can remember watching Bellamy on MTV in the 90s. The comedian is known for his time on Def Comedy Jam and those interviews on MTV. In this memoir, Bellamy details it all. If you were a 90’s kid like me, I think you’ll enjoy this book!

Kids’ Books releasing today

One True Wish by Lauren Kate – one fairy and three kids…all have wishes. The kids have to help rescue the fairy when she crashes and reveal their truest wish to help her gain her powers. This is a great book for middle grade readers and shows the power of friendship and kindness!

Summer Vacation, Here I Come! by DJ Steinberg and John Joven – From the creators of Kindergarten, Here I Come! is a brand new book to get kids ready for Summer break. These poems take kids through all they things families look forward to over vacation. And whatever you do, don’t tell my kid it has a page of stickers, too!

What Was The Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921? by Caleb Gayle & Tim Foley – this is the latest in the What Was? series. A few years ago, I learned about the Tulsa Race Massacre for the first time. This great book puts the very difficult to discuss events in easy-to-understand language for even the youngest readers.
