New Release Tuesday – 3/7/23

Happy New Release Tuesday! So many of today’s releases are making waves in my book clubs! Don’t forget – you can grab your copies while supporting our blog by shopping our Bookshop.org page! What are you picking up today?

I am Debra Lee by Debra Lee – I love books about strong female business presences and this memoir is just that! Debra Lee is known for her time as the Chairman and CEO of Black Entertainment Television (BET). She also served on the boards of many organizations including The Ad Council and was named one of the 100 most influential women in entertainment by The Hollywood Reporter. Lee delivers some spicy details about her personal life and that of celebrities, but she also offers an honest conversation about topics female business leaders often encounter like leading an all-male team, and balancing work with motherhood and marriage.

Weyward by Emilia Hart – This is a March Book of the Month pick and is Hart’s debut novel! This is book promises a glimpse of what happens when our world encounters witchcraft. Following multiple timelines, Hart gives an amazing story of female power and maternal ties.

Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson – This novel has been on all the most anticipated book release lists for the month! Another debut novel about three strong women, Jackson sets this work against the backdrop of Brooklyn’s Gilded Age. Full of humor and wit, early reviews say readers will fall in love with the characters!

Confidence by Rafael Frumkin – this book is touted as a “most anticipated release” but it doesn’t sound like it’s up my alley. It’s all the entrepreneurship and partnership of Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, but more grifter and scammer than gamer.

Tweakerworld by Jason Yamas – another book that has been the talk of my book clubs, but I’m not sure it’s high on my TBR list. This memoir recounts Yamas’ time as a film producer in Los Angeles, as well as his spiral into the world of crystal meth and drug dealing. My biggest hang up on this one is the marketing around its release imply Yamas has been heavily involved in the film industry, but only one very minor film is listed in his IMDb profile.

Kids’ Books releasing today

Hope is a Hop by Katrina Moore and Melissa Iwai – as we get ready for Easter, consider this for your littlest readers! Eva wants a garden, but a rabbit has other plans. When Eva goes to investigate, she get a new perspective that has her opening her heart and learning to try again.

A Green Velvet Secret by Vicki Grant – this book is perfect for your middle grade readers. When Yardley’s grandmother passes away, she’s devastated. But Yardley, and her grandmother, believe in reincarnation. So when she encounters a mystery woman, she’s determined to prove it’s her grandmother. With the help of a green velvet dress and letters left behind by her grandmother, Yardley finds out there’s quite a few secrets about both women she didn’t know before.

Banana by Zoey Abbott – this book is a bit of a slap in the face to parents who find themselves distracted by devices, but it’s a great read aloud with the little ones. With quick wit and funny commentary, a daughter faces a challenge when her dad gets a new Banana – it’s an awesome and cool tool at first, but when dad won’t put it down, she decides it’s time to take action herself.

The Laugh by Fay Evans and Ayse Klinge – another book about loss, this one focuses on a lady with a unique and infectious laugh. When the woman passes, a little girl is left behind and finds it hard to move on. Eventually, the girl finds her own laugh again and learns that, while the woman is gone, her memories aren’t. This is a striking look at death, grief, and moving on after a loss.
