Jojo Moyes is back with her latest book Someone Else’s Shoes, which follows two very different women as they grapple with relationship challenges, new careers, and parenting problems. Filled with Moyes classic humor and witty conversation, this new release is sure to make you laugh.
Sam’s employer was recently acquired by a big company leaving her to deal with new demands from the new management team. She’s also working through how to be compassionate to a husband who is suffering from severe depression while still getting what she needs to feel fulfilled. Nisha’s husband suddenly turns off access to her credit cards and their penthouse suite. She’s working through how to reunite with her son while fighting her husband for access to her belongings. Along with their friends, these two take revenge and finding your inner strength to a whole new level!
I give Someone Else’s Shoes 4 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed the character development and the detail given to the setting. However, I did hit a section of the book that felt more like a reused storyline and was very slow reading for me. That section was very predictable and almost painful to read. I was happy that the story picked up again later in the book. I also many of the interactions between the characters very funny and charming.
I recommend this novel for readers who enjoyed Moyes other works like the Me Before You series and The Giver of the Stars. I also think this would make a great book club read. With discussions of divorce, menopause, parenting, and vague mentions of sex, this book is best for an audience over the age of 13. Even with these deep topics, this is a light read and very enjoyable.
I took Someone Else’s Shoes on my business trip this week – my copy is hardback and traveled well in my carryon. I wanted an easy read to help me destress during the journey. I’m a nervous flier and this trip came with lots of work stress, too. I found myself giggling at many of the exchanges between the main characters and their husbands and friends – I’m pretty sure my neighbor on the plane thought I was a little crazy! This was also one of my February picks from Book of the Month. I hope you will enjoy this book as well!
